How can we perform a quantitative NMR experiment? And where do we apply this kind of analysis? Torsten Schönberger, KT43 -Central Analytics II, Bundeskriminalamt, Germany, published a “GUIDELINE FOR qNMR ANALYSIS“, a practical guideline to support the forensic community with special knowledge on quantitative Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (qNMR) analysis. A qNMR experiment is very easy to perform, however, the setting of the respective parameters is the most crucial point. The guideline explains step-by-step how to proceed with the sample preparation and the NMR analysis, which is universal for a variety of forensic and other applications. Since the number of applications is increasing quickly, the education of new NMR specialist is highly required. Thus, the guideline aim at practical users focussing on the 1H NMR analysis of pure substances or mixtures of multiple compounds with an uncertainty level of approx. 1%.
